Snow in the Midlands
Snow is such a rare thing in South Carolina, that when those wonderful white flakes do fall out of the sky, the entire state shuts down. No lie. For instance, the amount of snow seen in the video below is about all we had – a dusting. Even before the snow began to fall, many schools decided to close for the day and many others had delayed openings. I’m hoping they closed in fear of the snow being worse than it was because it really wasn’t anything to worry about in Columbia. The roads were wet, but they weren’t any worse than a rainy day. Of course, no one in Columbia can drive when it rains, so I can’t imagine they could drive any better with pretty white flakes distracting them. I’m waiting for the blizzard of 1973 to rear its ugly head again, so that I can experience 16+ inches of snow in person. I wonder how many days of work and school were missed then. That may have been the year my brother prayed for snow. Boy, were his prayers answered!

We still have February to get through, so maybe we’ll get some more snow. I want to peg Phil with at least one snow ball. 🙂 Just one.
One of my bloggers, Brian from Nain in Canada, said that the schools closed there recently when it got to -50c (-58f). I guess it’s all relative but it amuses me when the US and the UK will close down at the slightest sight of snow and Canadians take it in their stride.

Glad you liked the postcard. Yeah … I can get pretty verbose … and I learned to fit a lot of stuff on the back of those little postcards. Stay warm! It’s been in the thirties even in Florida. Best wishes from a sister Postcrosser.

Come on Gabe. You know that as a state we only get one day of snow a year and it’s always in January. I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting on more snow…

@ TOPolk – You are such a pessimist! And just for the record the blizzard of 73′ occurred in February.
I’m not holding my breath or anything, but I would be happy if we got a little more than a crappy dusting. 🙂

Hey Gabe!!!LOL You had school closed for that little snow!!! 🙂 In Italy it has been snowing lots (of course up in the North) and I heard of no school closed… Poor students! They should have moved to SC!!! LOL-
Still it is pouring down with rain at the minute here…And it is oh so bothering! Especially because people here are not able to drive at all with rain! They just seem to get crazy and do the most crazy things ever!!! :-/
Lovely to hear your voice in the video…because it was yours, wasn’t it?!

@ Marta – Yes, that was my voice. 🙂 My school was only closed for two hours, but several of the primary, middle, and high schools did close for the day. It’s only because we never get any snow. If we got tons, I’m sure we would have snow plows and salt trucks, and thus would go to school like some folks up north do. 🙂
